An application for a change of name can only be processed and recorded in the State of New South Wales for:
• a person born in the State of New South Wales, or
• an Australian Citizen who is ordinarily a resident of New South Wales, or
• a Permanent resident of Australia who is ordinarily a resident of New South Wales.

You should note that: the application for a change of name is in the form of a Statutory Declaration. If a person alters their name with the intention to act fraudulently, deceptively or in any other manner that contravenes the Law, serious criminal proceedings may result against that person.
